Here's what I'm writing about at the Urban Institute and on LinkedIn, and posting on TikTok and Instagram. Follow me!

The Hustle in Faith Podcast I recorded with LaTosha Johnson is available on multiple platforms and covers my books and a host of other topics.

My professional career spans research, practice, and social and health policy. I am currently an Institute Fellow at the Urban Institute.

For seven years, I was the President and CEO of Grantmakers In Health. In past positions, I was a Senior Program Officer at the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine) , where I was responsible for the health disparities portfolio; and a Center Director in the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Education.

During the Clinton Administration, I was the Senior Coordinator for Population in the Department of State, a Presidential appointment. Before going to the State Department, I directed the population program of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Menlo Park, California, and was a Program Executive in health at the San Francisco Foundation. I received my doctorate in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.
